John Makela is an Ontario-born journalism student skilled in professional and creative writing with a strong eye for visuals, and on-screen presentation.

Currently in his final year of the journalism program at Toronto Metropolitan University, Makela has been trained on Canadian-Press style writing, industry standards for news broadcast writing, recording, producing and more.

Personally I’ve always been driven towards writing because of the possibility it brings. I love being able to just build a world with my words, it’s always been a strong outlet for me. This has always brought out a very natural and distinct voice within my writing. I try to capture as much life as I can when I’m writing about something.

In the future I’d like to continue bringing a sense of personability to my work. I’d also like to continue pushing myself out of my comfort zone and put my writing to the test. I’d also like to explore multimedia ventures in audio, video, and production. I’ve had a lot of success in the past with school and volunteering roles and it’s something I’d be interested in exploring.
